Victorian Workshop - November 2023
Year 2 enjoyed a visit from Mrs O's workshops where they experienced life in a Victorian School.
The girls were sat separate to boys, they wrote on a slate board, learnt about the three R's (reading, writing and arithmetic) and repeated by rote the ‘Rules for Pupils’.
They experienced some Victorian era punishments: Two children were told to wear the Dunces Hat as they got a question wrong; one child was given the finger stocks to help him stop fidgeting; and some children even ‘received’ the cane for bringing a toy into the classroom.
The children loved experiencing what life was like for Victorian children and are now using this experience to write about the Victorian Era in History.
