We have had a fantastic start to our term in Year Two! We have been very busy settling in, working together and learning lots of new and exciting things. Take a look at what we've been up to so far:
We loved our trip to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to see 'The Cat in the Hat'! It was such a fantastic performance! Our favourite parts were when we were squirted with the water pistols and when the Cat in the Hat balanced on a giant ball holding lots of different things. The actors did some amazing acrobatics - we couldn't believe our eyes!
In ICT this term we have been Photographers. Mrs Beagley gave us a different theme each week and challenged us to take pictures with the ipads to fit each one. We had the following themes: Colour, happy, movement and toys. When we had taken lots of pictures we had to choose our favourites and edit them to make them even better. These are some of our pictures. Can you tell which theme they go with?
In Science we are learning about how we grow and change as we get older. Yesterday we had a special toddler visitor to our Science lesson! We asked lots of questions and compared what she could do to what we could do. It was interesting to see how many more skills we have learnt.
We have been exploring traditional poems in Literacy. We've loved reading The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear; so much so that we made a beautiful display about it!
We love reading in Year Two! Here are some of our favourite books.
We have had lots of fun learning about materials in Science this term in Year Two. Today we had to solve a problem by conducting an investigation (most of us thought paper towels made the best teabags!).
We have been exploring information texts in Literacy. Today, we researched birds using information books from the library, and created our own fact files.
Today we have been exploring dictionaries. We have been practising looking up the definitions of different words, using our knowledge of the alphabet to help us find them.
In Art, we have been learning about the famous painter, Wassily Kandinsky. We painted our own paintings inspired by his work.
We have really enjoyed reading 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. In Literacy, we wrote letters from Max to his mum, apologising for all the naughty things he did. In Art, we painted pictures of the land where the wild things are. Take a look!
We have been learning about recycling in Science. Take a look at the fantastic models we made at home, using recycled materials.
We have been busy measuring in Maths. We have had lots of fun exploring length, weight, capacity and volume.
Take a look at all the fun we had learning about Italy during our Wyke Travels the World week!
In PE we pretended to be Roman chariot racers!
We built the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
We learnt the words for Italian colours.
We designed and created Venetian masks.
We tasted different vegetables and made pizzas.
We made our own Italian restaurant!
In Science we have been learning about everyday materials. Today we explored our school grounds, looking for different uses of everyday materials and recording our results. We then had a go at grouping them appropriately.
Google coding gameWe are learning to code in ICT this half term. This week we worked with partners to play the Google coding game which was launched last year as a Google Doodle to celebrate 50 years of child accessible programming languages. There was a lot of thinking, planning and fun involved in working out how to get the bunny to bounce its way around all the carrots. Try it at home and see if you can work out not only a route that works but the one that needs the least number of programming instructions.
We have been adding and taking away using dice and multilink today.
We painted portraits of our friends today! Take a look!
We have been getting to know our new classroom. We went on a Maths treasure hunt to find different areas and resources around the room and used our adding and subtracting skills.
