Welcome to Year 1!
In the classroom you have:
Teacher: Mrs Theobald
LSAs: Mrs McArthur
Miss Gilbert
As part of our new RE topic, 'Why should we look after our world?', we discussed how to keep our planet a nice place to live. The children said that we must keep it tidy and clean! So this afternoon we pretended that we were a clean up team here to tidy up our school environment. The children found lots of rubbish around our school and we have kept it to sort into recyclable and non recyclables next week.
Here are some photos of us on our clean up mission!
We had an amazing day working with Mrs Bryan from 'The Happy Art Company'. We spent the whole day taking part in a printing workshop. We experimented with lots of different printing techniques e.g direct, lino, collagraph and mono-printing! Our work tied in with our topic on 'Houses and Homes'. We looked at works by the artist Hundertwasser and used some of his work as inspiration for our own printing and class canvas.
Here are some photos from our brilliant day! BEST MONDAY EVER!
Mrs Bryan is assembling our class canvas, made with all of our art work, at home and will return it once finished. We will be hanging it pride of place inside school. Photos to come .....
We all dressed up as different characters. Can you guess who we are?
Today we had a go at some traditional Greek dancing. We also designed our own ancient Greek pots, looking at the patterns and recreating them carefully.
Today we had a brilliant morning tasting traditional Greek food! Everyone joined in and tried lots. We found out we don't have many feta cheese lovers in Year 1 but the Greek yoghurt and honey was a winner!
We had an amazing day doing nothing but art! Yippee!
Mrs Bryan from the Happy Art Company came in to do a printing workshop with us this week. We had so much fun and spent all day learning new printing techniques, developing our skills and creating a group collaborative display. We had a go at direct, additive, subtractive, collograph and mono-printing. All our prints were themed around our science unit, plants. We printed fruit, vegetables, flowers and roots. We got super messy but it was ok as we wore our own clothes.
Have a look at some of our work!
