18th July - Our Class Party
The children were very excited to have a party to celebrate their year in Reception. We were very organised - we voted on the foods we wanted to eat and came up with a playlist of the songs we wanted to listen to!
We were very lucky as Mrs Whitfield made us a fabulous treasure chest chocolate cake and Mrs Bramley brought us in ice lollies too! Thank you both very much!
We enjoyed our food and then had a little disco before a run around outside! A perfect end to a wonderful year! Come and see us having fun!
13th July 2018 - Our class party for selling the most raffle tickets!
Reception were very excited to have a party! The Friends of Wyke kindly gave us lots of treats to celebrate selling the most raffle tickets out of all the classes.
We had a disco (we like dancing to our music!) followed by a picnic in our Reception paddock!
Thank you Friends of Wyke for our lovely treat!
Reception's visit to Fisher's Farm Park - 27th June 2018
Reception had a fantastic day at Fisher's Farm Park with Year 1 and Year 2. We visited a castle, went through the Ghost Tunnel, rode on the train and travelled around the park in tractor pulled barrels! The weather was glorious, the children made us proud and a wonderful day was had by all! Have a look at what we did!
Friday 8th June 2018 - Teddy Bear Picnic with Year 6
Reception were very excited to have a Teddy Bear's picnic and invited Year 6 to join them. We were very busy this morning making ham, jam and cheese sandwiches for us all to eat.
We shared our lovely picnic food with our friends on the school field and our teddies!
We all had a wonderful time - come and see what we did!
Reception Visit to RHS Wisley - 22nd May 2018
This week we were lucky enough to go, as a class, to RHS Wisley. Here are some pictures from the day of the things that we did…
We looked at lots of beautiful trees and flowers of all sizes and colours…
We went on a hunt to find a dinosaur! And even Betty Bear joined us! She was just as excited as the children…
A couple of children even had a go at map reading…
While we were walking around Battleston Hill we had a scavenger hunt. We found lots of interesting things like petals, feathers, twigs and leaves…
We spotted some amazing animals too…
The children loved the glass house, it was full of ponds, waterfalls, beautiful plants and we even spotted some bananas growing! On our way out we had a quick look at the beautiful artwork they were displaying too...
We did lots and lots and LOTS of walking!
Naughty Betty Bear did pop up in some strange places!
The children had a fantastic day, as did the adults! Thank you.
Making Nana's magic soup! - 16th May 2018
Following our reading of the story "Oliver's Vegetables",the children had lots of fun cutting up vegetables to make Nana's magic soup. They practiced cutting up carrots, sweet potato, red peppers and added it to red onions, vegetable stock and chopped tomatoes to make the soup.
Later in the afternoon they enjoyed their soup with some bread and butter. Yum yum! Come and see the fun they had!
Forest School with Mr Lynch - 25th April 2018
Reception had a wonderful time watching Mr Lynch making a fire and then had the opportunity to roast marshmallows and make marshmallow sandwiches! Their observational skills were lovely to hear. Here are some photos of what they did!
Thursday 8th March 2018 - World Book Day
Reception had a wonderful day today dressing up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day. We shared and listened to stories in the morning.
In the afternoon, we were very lucky as Year 6 came up and shared their Recycling stories with us! We also got the opportunity to share our Very Hungry Caterpillar stories with them too!
Of course we had a little time to play as well!

Wednesday 21st February 2018 - Making pancakes
Reception had lots of fun today finding out about Shrove Tuesday (which happened during half term) and helped to make and then eat their own pancakes! We mixed flour, milk and egg replacer before Mrs Bramley, Miss Gilbert and Mrs Bugg cooked our pancakes! We had a choice of toppings:- lemon juice and sugar, strawberry jam or golden syrup! Yum yum! Come and look at all the fun we had!
Reception Visit Bockett's Farm
The children had a wonderful day at Bockett's Farm. We had a fantastic tractor ride, which showed us all of the farm. We watched Gretel the goat being milked, stroked Minnie mouse, Popcorn and Fancy the guinea pigs and Buttercup the rabbit.
We also went in the animal shed to feed all the baby animals, including the cows, sheep and their lambs, a pig and her piglets, donkeys and goats.
We enjoyed our packed lunches in Pond Barn before watching the pig racing! It was very exciting!
Finally we spent some time in the outdoor play area and had lots of fun!

The children were very excited to meet Mrs Jesse's dog Shadow today. They had been given a photo of Shadow at the beginning of the week and their writing task was to think of questions that they wanted to ask Mrs Jesse to find out more about Shadow.
Mrs Jesse told us lots of information about Shadow and answered all of the children's questions. Reception got the opportunity to stroke Shadow and had a wonderful morning. Thank you Mrs Jesse and Shadow!
A policeman came to visit - 30th November 2017
Last week Reception were very lucky as Amy's dad, a policeman, came in to visit us and told us all about his role as a policeman.
The children were invited to became detectives for the morning, searching for silver and gold coins around the classroom and then putting them into evidence bags! They had lots of fun and asked Amy's dad lots of questions.
Making Bread - Wednesday 4th October 2017
This week we have been enjoying the story of "The Little Red Hen". As part of our learning we decided to make our own bread. Come and look at all the fun we had mixing, kneading and then enjoying our bread with butter or jam!
Year 6 visit Reception - Thursday 14th September 2017
Reception were very excited today when Year 6 came up for a very special visit. All the children had a wonderful time playing together. We hope you enjoy the slideshow!
Our trip to Paultons Park!
The children had a wonderful time exploring Peppa Pig World and Paultons Park. We went on lots of rides and had lots of fun! Come and see what we did!
Playing the glockenspiels
This week Reception used the glockenspiels for the first time! They practised following the beat, playing the notes DDCD in time to the song Big Bear Funk. They showed a growth mind-set by practising and trying to play in time to the song. Well done everyone!
Our Easter Bonnets!
Well done Reception! You looked fabulous with your Easter bonnets! Well done to Noah who won a special award for his Easter bonnet!
Making Easter Nests
We had lots of fun making traditional Easter nests during the last week of term. We looked at the changes that took place as we heated and cooled the chocolate. Come and see our photos.
World Book Day - 2nd March 2017
The children enjoyed coming to school today dressed up as their favourite character. Can you guess who we are?
Sharing stories with Year 6
In the afternoon Reception were very lucky as Year 6 came up to read them stories which they had written for Reception. After sharing the books, the children all had a chance to play together before enjoying some juice and biscuits! A perfect end to a fun filled day!
Today the children had great fun making and then tasting pancakes in the classroom. Each of our groups the Lions, Snakes, Zebras, Elephants and Monkeys worked together brilliantly to mix the batter and later tasted their pancakes by adding a choice of toppings - strawberry jam, lemon and sugar! The children were able to tell us what they thought of them too - "Yummy, sweet, soft, fluffy and lemony were some of the words the children used to describe their pancakes!

Gymnastic skills!
This half term reception have been doing gymnastics in PE. We have learned lots of new skills like different kinds of balances, rolls and jumps. This week we had all the apparatus out and we have been using all our skills to work on benches, beams and also the ropes. As you can see we have had lots of fun on the ropes!
This week in Reception we have been finding out about builders. Mr Amond our caretaker, came in to talk to us about the jobs he does around school. He talked to us about being safe and showed us the tools that he uses. We helped him to fit the fire extinguishers onto the wall. Look at us!
